It is that month again where men all over the world drop their razors and let their facial grow wild to raise awareness for mens health.
The month of Movember, formerly known as November, is a month to inform and raise money so that we can all better understand illnesses that effect men. This month also allows us to help those men who need it and encourage men to come forward and speak out.
“Movember made me want to grow facial hair”
Speaking to a student from Bournemouth University who has been through testicular troubles and mental health struggles feels more needs to be done to raise awareness so men can get the help they need. The student went on to say how the month is a good laugh but that it does need to be taken more seriously: “I remember when I was a child and seeing my dad do Movember made me want to grow facial hair so I could join in.”
Lucy Sumner, 18, and a first year student at Bournemouth University was unaware what Movember was and proceeded to say how it should be made more public because it’s “cool” and it’s for a “good cause”.
“It’s nothing to be ashamed about”
Sam Studd, 19, also believes that this month is great for charity and does shine a light on men’s health. He said: “Despite not being able to grow a beard I can grow a moustache and its always great fun to be able to do so, especially for charity.
“More men need to realise that they can talk and that it’s nothing to be ashamed about.”
There are charities out there that help raise funds for mens health and every penny counts.
Charities help to support men through mental health obstacles. The money raised also goes towards battling cancer in men.
Lets make a difference this Movember and grow some facial hair. Save a life.
