Russia, amongst others supports the Assad regime, whereas the U.S and U.K have been leading bombing strikes against rebel forces, including IS, who are looking to seize upon the chaos in the region.

A: The U.N estimates the 6.1 million people have been internally displaced as a result of the war in Syria.
Q: How many people have been killed as a result of fighting in Syria?
A: 470,000.
Q: What is the Syrian Vulnreable Person Resettlement (VPR) scheme?
A: This is the scheme put forward by former PM David Cameron, supported by current PM and former Home Secretary Theresa May, that pledged to resettle 20,000 refugees by the end of parliament. A further 3,000 unaccompanied child refugees have been promised homes in the U.K.
Q: Currently, how many refugees are there in the U.K?
A:According to the Red Cross there are 117,234 refugees in the U.K., including 5,500 who have been granted asylum from Syria.
